Nicholas Ghan is a Registered Psychologist who is passionate about working with adults to help optimise their mental health and wellbeing. Nicholas works collaboratively with his clients to develop a shared understanding of their challenges and difficulties, to identify therapeutic goals, and to formulate a treatment approach which is best adapted to the individual client. Nicholas prioritises a holistic approach in which he considers the relevant biological, psychological and social factors which may be impacting the client. He then conceptualises how these factors contribute to the client’s overall mental health and wellbeing.
Nicholas believes that strong therapeutic relationships is key to therapy being successful. Nicholas is a gentle, warm, and empathetic clinician, who listens intently to his client’s concerns which makes them feel understood. Nicholas responds to his client’s concerns with compassion and non-judgment, thereby cultivating a safe place for them to comfortably discuss their difficulties, stresses, and concerns.
Nicholas is interested in working with clients with a range of presentations, including but not limited to anxiety and depression, worry, adjustment difficulties, social anxiety, anger and aggressive behaviour, perfectionism, emotional regulation difficulties, grief and loss, interpersonal difficulties, phobias, relationship difficulties, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, low self-esteem, trauma, and stress management.
Nicholas draws upon and utilises a variety of different treatment modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness-based techniques, Schema Therapy and Motivational Interviewing.
Nicholas graduated with First Class Honours from the Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) program, and completed his Masters of Psychology (Clinical) degree at The University of Adelaide. He is a registered psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Nicholas has been involved in the research space, co-authoring research papers and delivering conference presentations pertaining to such topics as resilience and life transitions.
Outside of work, Nicholas is a field umpire at the South Australian National Football League, enjoys watching movies, having a hit of golf, and loves watching most sports. He has also previously undertaken volunteer work at Lifeline.
